BASIL MANNING DURBAN

 

1. Take the Umgeni Road off-ramp from the N2 and travel in an Easterly Direction.  At the next set of traffic lights (just before home centre), turn left.  At the stop sign, turn right into Intersite Avenue and we are no. 74 on the left hand side.  Alternatively, continue to the second set of traffic lights (Hyundai on the left) and Value Centre/Makro on the right.  Turn left into Royal Palm Avenue.  At the t-junction (Hirsch’s on the left), turn left and we are the 3rd building on the right hand side (just behind Hirsch’s parking exit).
2. If you are coming from North Coast Road or from the City, get into Umgeni Road and travel in a Westerly direction.  At the Alpine Road intersection, you can turn right (Tiger Wheel and Tire on the right) and this road leads into Intersite Avenue.  Continue until you find no. 74 on your right – just after Hirsch’s on the left, corner of Royal Palm and Intersite.  Alternatively, take a right turn at the Makro intersection – Steers/Engen on right into Royal Palm Avenue.  At T-Junction, turn left into Intersite and we are 3rd building on the right – behind Hirsch’s.
3. From the M4 (coastal road past Durban North and the Hypermarket), take the Riverside Road off-ramp and keep left into Umgeni Road.  Follow directions from point above.

The large image of a shoal of kingfish cleverly placed on the windows leave you in no doubt that you've arrived at a very different tackle shop and the massive thousand pound marlin mounted above the entrance welcomes you inside. After walking along the wooden bridge through the entrance tunnel with its beautiful scenery images, you'll be overwhelmed by the size and look of this store. Bright lights, nice high ceilings and the most incredible graphics set the tone for a memorable shopping experience.

There are also plenty of gift items for the anglers who already have all the tackle; from handy weather-stations to state of the art waterproof binoculars. For the tackle junkie, you're going to spend lots of money here. Basil Manning has all the new goodies; fancy lures, shiny reels and loads of accessories. For tackle maintenance issues, rest assured that reel services are done at the store and a speedy turn around will see you back on the water in no time. The rod workshop will take care of your rod repairs and all of your custom-built rod needs.

There is also a large clothing department with a superb range of Senqu outdoor clothing, catering for both men and ladies. There is also all the Assassin technical fishing clothing and a variety of fishing branded shirts and t-shirts. If clothing doesn't excite you, there are still plenty of other things to feast your eyes on. A huge range of fishing rods, from top of the range Assassins to exceptionally well-priced rod and reel combos. If its reels you're after, you won't be disappointed. There are all the reels you could wish for, whether you're a pro or novice, millionaire or pauper, there's a reel to suit your needs.    

Once you've done all your shopping or waiting for the rest of your mates, you can relax on the fabulous couches while reading the new fishing magazines or do a bit of web surfing on one of the internet stations. Check out the weather sites, lookup great angling destinations or just browse the top tackle sites. An even better idea would be to have a cup of coffee and a snack at the quaint little coffee shop, aptly named "The Coffee Grinder". If you happen to go there over lunchtime on a Friday, be sure to try the Friday Special, guaranteed to be very tasty. Not satisfied yet? Dotted around the store are 5 large plasma screens playing the latest fishing shows and product DVD's as well as in-store specials and competitions. The one thing you won't notice when you're in the store is the large lecture room upstairs that can accommodate up to 75 people. This is where regular clinics on a variety of subjects are held by very competent anglers. So if you're keen to learn more about the sport you enjoy, book your spot and come to the clinics and you will walk away a wiser angler. The lecture room is also kitted with some serious audio-visual equipment, such as a large projector and powerful speakers, so the clinics and presentations will definitely be far from boring. The lecture room is also available for hire to "homeless" clubs and organizations for meetings, as well as pre-competition briefings.

BASIL MANNING UMHLANGA

Basil Manning Umhlanga (previously known as Gone Fishing), is situated on the ground floor of the Gateway Shopping Centre opposite Safari Centre.  This store opened its doors in May 2002 and caters for all anglers, whether competitive or occasional, to shoppers looking for gifts to buy for somebody who ‘has everything’.   


Directions:
Take the M41 / Umhlanga Rocks turnoff from the N2 or the M4.  The Gateway Shopping Centre is well signed from this intersection.  The closest parking area to use to go directly to our store would be Parkade C – either open or covered.  We are on the ground floor near the Wave House / Entertainment section across the way from Safari Centre and the Toy Shop.
